{"id":1157,"date":"2015-11-01T07:36:39","date_gmt":"2015-11-01T15:36:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/?p=1157"},"modified":"2015-11-01T07:36:39","modified_gmt":"2015-11-01T15:36:39","slug":"symbols-symbols-and-more-symbols","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/?p=1157","title":{"rendered":"Symbols, Symbols and More Symbols"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This specific article is geared toward the main diabetes symbol.\u00a0 As such things have become ever-so-popular in this day and age over the last decade or so,\u00a0symbols bring awareness and personal support\u00a0to the increased tribulations faced by the global community.\u00a0 Diabetes is one among hundreds.\u00a0 As a Global Diabetes Awareness Advocate, I hope to refresh your memories in telling you that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">November is the International Diabetes Awareness Month.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The blue circle is the universal symbol for diabetes.\u00a0 Until 2006, there was no global symbol for diabetes.\u00a0 The purpose of the symbol is to give diabetes a common identity.\u00a0 It aims to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support all existing efforts to raise awareness about diabetes;<\/li>\n<li>Inspire new activities, bring diabetes to the attention of the general public;<\/li>\n<li>Brand diabetes; and<\/li>\n<li>Provide a means to show support for the fight against diabetes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>&#8220;What is the History of the blue circle?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The icon was originally developed for the campaign that resulted in the passage of United Nations Resolution 61\/225 &#8220;World Diabetes Day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The campaign for a United Nations Resolution on diabetes was a response to the diabetes <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">pandemic<\/span> that is set to overwhelm healthcare resources everywhere.\u00a0 The campaign mobilized diabetes stakeholders behind the common cause of securing a United Nations Resolution on diabetes. The united Nations passed Resolution 61\/225 &#8216;World Diabetes Day&#8217; on December 20, 2006.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Why a circle?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The circle occurs frequently in nature and has thus been widely employed since the dawn of humankind.\u00a0 The significance is overwhelmingly positive.\u00a0 Across cultures, the circle can symbolize life and health.\u00a0 Most significantly for the campaign, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the circle symbolizes unity<\/span>.\u00a0 Our combined strength is the key element that made this support a United Nations Resolution on diabetes and needs to remain united to make a difference.\u00a0 As we all know: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">to do nothing is no longer an option<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Why blue?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The blue border of the circle reflects the color of the sky and the flag of the United Nations.\u00a0 The United Nations is in itself a symbol of unity amongst nations and is the only organization that can signal to governments everywhere that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">it is time to fight diabetes and reverse the global trends that will impede economic development and cause so much suffering and premature death.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Who owns the symbol?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) holds all rights to the blue circle for diabetes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_awareness_ribbons<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge is power!\u00a0 Just sayin&#8221;&#8230;and passing some along to you.<\/p>\n<p>A.
