{"id":1444,"date":"2018-04-09T13:38:56","date_gmt":"2018-04-09T20:38:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/?p=1444"},"modified":"2018-04-09T13:38:56","modified_gmt":"2018-04-09T20:38:56","slug":"what-does-having-diabetes-mean-to-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/?p=1444","title":{"rendered":"What does having diabetes mean to me?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pondering the above-titled question took me a few minutes to answer.\u00a0 Ask yourself the same question and see how long it takes you to answer.<\/p>\n<p>There are more cons than pros considering this is a life-threatening, incurable disease that needs daily and nightly attention.\u00a0 The details to looking and feeling good are never-ending.<\/p>\n<p>In short, to me, having diabetes (T1D) specifically means: paying attention to my <em>every<\/em> action and inaction; regulating my insulin due to these actions and inactions; pricking more than one finger ten times a day &#8211; more if I&#8217;m sick &#8211; for a blood sugar level check.\u00a0 <em>Being careful<\/em> with what I eat and drink throughout any day or night; being careful when figuring every\u00a0dose of\u00a0insulin &#8211; often a guessing game &#8211; in order to digest what I eat, is habitual.\u00a0 Sometimes embarrassing in public, but it&#8217;s definitely habitual.<\/p>\n<p>Finding time in my career to get a required 30-minute walk or bicycle ride for circulatory and neurologic (nerve) flows is often difficult &#8211; and often dependent upon the weather &#8211; but it can be done.<\/p>\n<p>Having this disease for 60 years has certainly taught me courage,\u00a0persistence, perseverance, and a host of other things, good and bad.\u00a0 I am a warrior!<\/p>\n<p>I like life.\u00a0 I am a happy person and find the positive in\u00a0all situations.\u00a0 Sometimes things were meant to be, no coincidence.\u00a0 My spirit is healthy, my belief system is strong along with my faith.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think?<\/p>\n<p>Just wonderin&#8217;.\u00a0 #buckroth<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-859\" src=\"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/2-Andrea-Jan-1958-275x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/2-Andrea-Jan-1958-275x300.jpg 275w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/2-Andrea-Jan-1958-137x150.jpg 137w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/2-Andrea-Jan-1958-200x217.jpg 200w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/2-Andrea-Jan-1958-28x31.jpg 28w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/2-Andrea-Jan-1958-34x38.jpg 34w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/2-Andrea-Jan-1958-197x215.jpg 197w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/2-Andrea-Jan-1958.jpg 457w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pondering the above-titled question took me a few minutes to answer.\u00a0 Ask yourself the same question and see how long it takes you to answer.
