{"id":1513,"date":"2019-01-05T10:43:41","date_gmt":"2019-01-05T18:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/?p=1513"},"modified":"2021-09-06T14:41:58","modified_gmt":"2021-09-06T21:41:58","slug":"a-dog-named-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/?p=1513","title":{"rendered":"A Dog named Money"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This brief blog regards my dog named <em>Money<\/em>, not cash-in-hand or monetary concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Adopted in 2008 through a facility in Colorado at eight months old, his original name was \u201cBuddy.\u201d At that young age, he was more than willing to be loved, accepted, and happy.\u00a0 Driving him home to California, his name was changed to \u201cMoney.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Due to another family dog, a Bichon Frise name \u201cPicasso\u201d after the infamous painter, use of another infamous and favored painters\u2019 name, \u201cMonet,\u201d came to mind. Hmm.\u00a0 \u201cBuddy Monet\u201d or \u00a0\u201cMonet Buddy?\u201d\u00a0 Wanting an attractive name change for selfish reasons, we knew an original name would bestow his belonging to our family.\u00a0 Therefore, we settled on \u201cMoney,\u201d \u201cMoney Buddy\u201d to be exact.<\/p>\n<p>Before arriving home on this pleasant yet long drive, repetitions of this name became gladly accepted. It fit him well and depicted a fun-loving and original character.<\/p>\n<p>After licensing, chipping, neutering, and veterinarian visits, this black Labrador Retriever\/Highlander Newfoundland puppy mix learned manners. For instance, his entering or exiting a doorway was paused to allow a human to enter or exit before him; he sat nicely while his food bowl was prepared or a cookie snack given; through daily walks, he encouraged his owners to exercise. \u00a0And the goodness went on.<\/p>\n<p>On first impression, you\u2019d think he was a Labrador Retriever with long hair and long legs. Gosh he was tall!\u00a0 He ran with the wind and always found me when I hid behind a tree.\u00a0 His paws were the size of those of a tiger, quite discerning through a wet or muddied print, giving an intimidating impression of his size.\u00a0 His strength matched his girth at his climaxed adult weight of 104 pounds.\u00a0 His kind, loving attitude and guard-like behavior matched his size.\u00a0 There was a lot of love!<\/p>\n<p>Grateful to have the insight to write an illustrated chapter book with\u00a0<em>Money<\/em>\u00a0as a\u00a0main character, he will live long into infinity.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1514 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/K4C-Pic-of-Money-page-13-286x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"197\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/K4C-Pic-of-Money-page-13-286x300.jpg 286w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/K4C-Pic-of-Money-page-13-143x150.jpg 143w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/K4C-Pic-of-Money-page-13-768x806.jpg 768w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/K4C-Pic-of-Money-page-13-975x1024.jpg 975w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/K4C-Pic-of-Money-page-13-200x210.jpg 200w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/K4C-Pic-of-Money-page-13-31x31.jpg 31w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/K4C-Pic-of-Money-page-13-36x38.jpg 36w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/K4C-Pic-of-Money-page-13-205x215.jpg 205w, http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/K4C-Pic-of-Money-page-13.jpg 1318w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 197px) 100vw, 197px\" \/>2018 saw a slow but apparent decline in his mobility \u0336\u00a0 dysplasia had sent in.\u00a0 Oh no!\u00a0 Comparable to arthritis in humans, this condition is painful.\u00a0 Veterinarian prescriptions helped ease this scenario for a short time, allowing Money to walk but at a slower pace.\u00a0 A healthier diet of brown rice, blueberries or a diced apple with diced carrots and fresh meat was also incorporated.\u00a0 We were looking for a miracle.\u00a0 However, he slowly became worse.\u00a0 Experiencing the sight of him in pain, we made the tough decision to have his veterinarian give him peace.\u00a0 Therefore, December 30, 2018, we said our loving, tender and tearful goodbyes.<\/p>\n<p>Surrounded by his beds, his toys, his jackets, his food and water bowls, these items were laundered, cleaned and given to the Disabled American Veterans thrift store. Copies of <u>Me &amp; My Money\u2026<\/u> accompanied these treasures.\u00a0 Money will never be forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>Sincerely, A. K.
