Continuing with this newly acclaimed title not of my creation,\u00a0I will allude to a recent Twitter by Alasdar Wilkins.\u00a0 Although his blog article subjects the reader to in-depth thinking, I have, nonetheless,\u00a0 become more comfortable\u00a0by publicly admitting to being a cyborg.<\/p>\n
Wilkins writes “Though creatures like the Terminator are still scifi\u00a0dreams, cyborgs already exist in real life. Millions of people use mechanical implants to improve their lives. That opens up urgent questions about cyborg rights, particularly in athletics.”\u00a0\u00a0I find the\u00a0keyword here\u00a0to be\u00a0“rights.”<\/p>\n
I am an insulin pump user.\u00a0 Have been for fifteen years.\u00a0 In my recently published autobiography, page 215, I bring up the fact of being a cyborg as follows:\u00a0 “Thus, I claim fame to being a cyborg.\u00a0 I walk around in life with a 3.5 ounce machine clipped to by belt, bra, waistband, or in a pant or skirt pocket that is both comfortable and big\u00a0enough to hold it.\u00a0 A clear plastic tube no more than 24 inches in length dangles between the pump and my body site.\u00a0 This allows a life-giving and necessary human hormone to drip [insulin]\u00a0into my person every three minutes.\u00a0 If that’s not a cyborg, I don’t know what is!”\u00a0 Etcetera, etcetera.<\/p>\n
I not only credit\u00a0Mr. Wilkins for this recent article, but the term “cyborgization”\u00a0will now be adopted, at least by me.\u00a0\u00a0 Having seen this specific word for the first time, it brought a smile to my face.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Just more food for thought.\u00a0 It is what it is\u00a0and that’s all there is.<\/p>\n
