{"id":531,"date":"2011-06-05T20:24:15","date_gmt":"2011-06-05T20:24:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/?p=531"},"modified":"2011-06-05T20:24:15","modified_gmt":"2011-06-05T20:24:15","slug":"personal-gardening-healthy-naturalism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/?p=531","title":{"rendered":"Personal Gardening = Healthy Naturalism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>&#8220;One of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between Man and Nature shall not be broken.&#8221;\u00a0 Leo Tolstoy<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The above quote allows me to share my interest in naturalism through gardening.\u00a0 It has also\u00a0encouraged my extended reading interests to herbs, their uses, their proper growing needs, but especially\u00a0their minor medicinal uses.\u00a0 This interest not only has become\u00a0a delightful hobby of mine over a period of many years, but has developed into quite\u00a0a world-wide trend.\u00a0 I know I am not alone!<\/p>\n<p>Initially inspired by an acquaintance who gave me some of her over-grown peppermint, I rooted it, planted it, cared for it, and watched it grow in leaps and bounds.\u00a0 The scent alone, wafting through my kitchen window, was all I needed to become further encouraged and enamored with other herbs.\u00a0 My research\u00a0led to a\u00a0search of retail herb suppliers and my herb garden began!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.horizonherbs.com\/\">http:\/\/www.horizonherbs.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the many articles that crossed my desk one day is called &#8220;<em>How Herbs and Vitamins May Benefit Your Health<\/em>&#8221; by Daniel Trecroci.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dlife.com\/diabetes_resources\/experts\/trecroci_bio\">http:\/\/www.dlife.com\/diabetes_resources\/experts\/trecroci_bio<\/a>\u00a0 This article\u00a0encouraged my way of thinking about natural healing and awareness by incorporating fresh herbs and herbal supplements into my\u00a0<em>diabetic <\/em>diet.<\/p>\n<p>Not all the herbs I grow are for assistance in managing my diabetes.\u00a0 Some I grow because of their scents;\u00a0others I grow for a loved one who suffers with ringing in the ears; another who has acne problems; a friend with allergies; stomach ailments; still other herbs\u00a0because ot their tastes and aromas.\u00a0 I use them <em>like<\/em> spices and <em>with<\/em> spices, one enhancing the flavor(s) of another.\u00a0\u00a0 I learned how to do this by reading books and articles = research.\u00a0 You can too!<\/p>\n<p>The use of the herb &#8216;fennel&#8217; is one example.\u00a0 For me, fennel has become a favorite herb when made into a hot or cold tea.\u00a0\u00a0It has a light and licorice-y flavor.\u00a0 Its natural qualities have truly gotten rid of my stomach upsets.\u00a0 Used with the natural sweetener called <em>Stevia<\/em>, it is one of the many herb\u00a0plants that I grow.\u00a0 I use it when picked fresh from my garden or\u00a0after it has been dehydrated and stored for the winter months.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Using herbs\u00a0with\u00a0the treatment of <em>diabetes<\/em> is a fairly new and positive factor.\u00a0 For instance, Dr. Jerry Gerson has been a diabetes specialist for approximately 45 years.\u00a0 He came across an &#8220;Indian herbal formula that has given millions of people with blood sugar problems hope and help.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthgrades.com\/directory_search\/physician\/profiles\/dr-md-reports\/dr-jerry-gerson-md-da629340\">http:\/\/www.healthgrades.com\/directory_search\/physician\/profiles\/dr-md-reports\/dr-jerry-gerson-md-da629340<\/a>\u00a0 Furthermore, he has been quoted\u00a0sauing &#8220;This formula has the entire medical community talking about its ability to normalize blood sugar.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Things that make you go &#8220;hmm!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As for purchasing supplements (aka: vitamins), I prefer to purchase those with a certain phrases written on the label:\u00a0a <strong>&#8220;<em>Natural Source<\/em><\/strong>&#8221;\u00a0made with &#8220;<strong><em>Certified Organic<\/em><\/strong>&#8221; ingredients.\u00a0 From Vitamin A through the gamut of so many other supplements throughout the English alphabet, I have used them at one time or another.\u00a0 I can attest to their wonderous qualities and effects.\u00a0 When I have\u00a0finished with one, I&#8217;ll try something new.\u00a0 Usually I go back to my original purchase.\u00a0 For instance, I am never without Vitamins E and D and the supplements pycogenol, white willow bark, evening primrose oil or acidophilus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Read, read, and read some more!\u00a0 Help yourself through research!\u00a0 My constant research into self-help has lead me to growing the herb form or\u00a0purchasing supplements.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many of what I choose to ingest works well for one ailment of another; or to inhibit the onslaught of another ailment due to diabetes and its complications.\u00a0 There are herbs, vitamins and supplements available on the market for neuropthay, another for retinopathy, circulation, digestion, brain function, menopause, pre-menstrual syndrome, and a host of uncomfortable and questional bothers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>YOU need to be resourceful when researching for yourself and your predicaments or pre-dispositions.\u00a0 Believe in yourself!\u00a0 All this helps me to help myslef;
