{"id":618,"date":"2012-03-05T18:48:35","date_gmt":"2012-03-05T18:48:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/?p=618"},"modified":"2012-03-05T18:48:35","modified_gmt":"2012-03-05T18:48:35","slug":"women-of-color","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mydiabeticsoul.com\/?p=618","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Women of Color&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The &#8220;<strong>2012 Annual Sacramento Women of Color Day\/Diversity Event<\/strong>&#8221; is in its 27th year!\u00a0 Once again organized and coordinated by Suzanne Brooks, CEO, I am happy to report that I was invited and participated in this occasion.\u00a0 Held at the Sacramento, CA, Library on I Street, my participation brought recognition to my book &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">My Diabetic Soul &#8211; An Autobiography<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year&#8217;s program focused on women of color&#8230;to come out of\u00a0social margins with recognition of\u00a0 achievements and contributions, increased communication among us, writing and telling our stories as a basis of new, innovative strategies for positive social changes that include us, and document our experiences for all people and for all time&#8230;.&#8221;\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.womenofcolorday.com\/htdocs\/achievements.htm\">http:\/\/www.womenofcolorday.com\/htdocs\/achievements.htm<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As an author, I am involved in many author\/writing clubs.\u00a0 One in particular, &#8220;<em>Gold Country Wordsmiths<\/em> (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff; text-decoration: underline;\">GCWordsmiths.com<\/span><\/span>),\u00a0invited me to partake\u00a0in this special event.\u00a0 I give warm thanks to GCW\u00a0member\u00a0Robert Steffen, ACTV\u00a0Producer,\u00a0\u00a0for his original and incited invitation.<\/p>\n<p>Why me?\u00a0 Why was I invited?\u00a0 Having successfully and courageously lived with diabetes for over fifty years,\u00a0with minimal effort I\u00a0try to \u00a0inspire\u00a0all Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetics as well as\u00a0non-diabetics to lead a healthful\u00a0and progressive life.\u00a0 This is my current career\u00a0goal.\u00a0 Through my book, I express\u00a0being ostracized\u00a0as a child with diabetes; adolescent peer pressures; college accomplishments; career building; marriage; tribulations\u00a0occurring with a\u00a0successful pregnancy; and onto menopause.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Women of Color<\/em> event allowed me to reach out to<em>\u00a0many<\/em> people once again!\u00a0 It basically &#8220;honors outstanding women of color for achievements\/contributions, and women, men, businesses, and organizations of all cultures supporting\/promoting diversity.&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0Colorful I am!<\/p>\n<p>With this personal endeavor, Louis Borelli, owner of &#8220;A Book X Change&#8221; bookstore in Auburn, CA, encouraged participated\u00a0with a set-up of a diverse collection of books that are sold in his store.\u00a0 Louis is talented in noticing diverse authors such as Gail McGonigle, author of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">&#8220;Dad&#8217;s Home Alone: Caring for Your Elderly Parent<\/span>;&#8221; Louise Schnur, author of &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">From Darkness to Light<\/span>;&#8221; and Robert Steffen, author of &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Holy Day&#8230;as it is on Earth,\u00a0as it is in Heaven<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Progressive and successful networking, brainstorming, sharing, and learning were &#8211; and are &#8211; encompassed with and through community endeavors.\u00a0 It is a matter of getting involved.\u00a0 Pursue your innovations.\u00a0 Grow with them and you will become accomplished.\u00a0 Learn, learn, learn then learn some more!\u00a0 Most importantly,<strong> take care<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; important words to live by!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sincerely, A.
